What Is Infrared?
Infrared, meaning below red, is an invisible wavelength that carries heat.  Infrared radiation is a method of heat transfer that allows heat to travel without a physical conduction source.
Infrared asphalt recycling equipment uses invisible heat to recycle asphalt.  The unit's heating element produces intense infrared wavelengths that are up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit.  These wavelengths are directed onto the bituminous asphalt surface that absorbs the wavelengths and creates heat energy in the asphalt.  The heat penetrates through  the asphalt to a depth necessary for the scarification of the asphalt surface.  Asphalt surfaces absorb up to 97% of the infrared energy exposure and turns that energy into heat.  Of course absorption depends on the darkness of the asphalt surface.  So the darker or newer the asphalt is, the more wavelengths it will absorb.
Seamless Patching:
	When infrared is used for patching, all areas are thermally bonded to the patch area, thus creating a continuous layer of bonded asphalt.  Water is then unable to penetrate the surface, unlike traditional patching methods of cut-out and fill.
Recyclable:
	Traditional patching methods require the cut-out and disposal of the problem area.  With Infrared up to 90%, and in some cases 100% of the problem area's asphalt can be re-used and rejuvenated back into the infrared patch.  Quite often this process creates a patched area that is indistinguishable from the surrounding areas.
